Vessels
My primary visual obsession focuses on the shape and texture of vessels. As I draw them over and over, they take on human-like qualities, individual characters that often make me laugh. There are endless collections of vessels, in all colors,
shapes and sizes, some squished together fighting for space and others singularly walking along a sidewalk lost in thought. There are pairings of vessels lovingly hanging out on a fence or on a beach. There are single parent families and dual parent families. There is a tense standoff between 3 ladies and 2 gentlemen. There are several vessels social distancing, alone and in pods, and there are threesomes side by side on a shelf. The possibilities are endless.
Each painting speaks to me of life, of the varying groupings of people we encounter daily - how we interact, how we communicate and how we share space. There are infinite combinations to explore, but mainly, I try to give each vessel a life and an environment of its own.
