Vessels

My visual obsession with vessels focuses on their form, function, color and texture. As I draw them over and over, they take on human-like qualities, individual characters in their own right. There are endless collections of vessels. Some are squished together fighting for space and others are walking along a sidewalk lost in thought. There are pairings of vessels lovingly hanging out on a fence or gazing out to the sea. There are single parent families and dual parent families. There are tense standoffs, loving embraces, social distancing, alone and in pods, and there are endless shelves full of individuals. The possibilities are endless.

Each painting speaks to me of life, of the varying groupings of people we encounter daily - how we interact, how we communicate and how we share space. There are infinite combinations to explore, but mainly, I try to give each vessel a life and an environment of its own.
